Uniper

Uniper, a leading energy supplier, owns a precious site in connection to its former nuclear power plant in Barsebäck. The power plant is being dismantled which raised the question of what and how to develop the site for a future purpose with value to Uniper.

Challenge

  • Uniper had developed a vision of a Clean Energy Park
  • The vision called for a multitude of partners to get involved
  • Uniper wanted to tap into more local and regional networks for this
  • The vision needed to be turned into tangible activities.

Approach

With the help of OpenX Lab (formerly Ideon Open), Uniper:

  • Created a strong WHY statement opening up to external collaborations
  • Made Learning trips to other sites to understand prerequisites and extend network
  • Grow the relationship with stakeholders at Kävlinge Municipality

Result

  • 250 new external contacts, 50+ meetings and workshops with commercial, public and academic players.
  • A letter of intent together with Kävlinge Municipality regarding the direction of the site.
  • 1 new major site investment opportunity
  • 1 high potential project based on a new commercial partnership with a big player outside of the Barsebäck project
  • A new assignment for OpenX Lab to explore the possibility of an Innovation hub at the site.
